Driving,driving,driving

Last brekkie in Toria

Thanks to Jetair India going bankrupt our 1 hour plane trip has been transformed into a 10 hour road trip, where we can once again discover the chaos of Indian traffic and put our lives in the hands of the 30 million gods. We stop along the way at many beauty spots.

We arrive at Varanasi at 6pm which is completely chaotic and are bundled onto a boat along the Ganges  past various holy men and cremation sites.

Our hotel is another converted palace,
no surprises there, and we settle in for dinner. We ask for the drinks list which surprisingly devoid of any alcoholic beverages-apparently a no-no so near the holy sites-DAMN!
So after dinner and missing out on spirits we decide to take an evening stroll along the Ganges. We were lucky enough to be approached by a "holy man" who took us through all the purification rituals including chanting, anointing, throwing flowers into the river, and being asked for large sums of money in return. Unfortunately he had to settle for small sums of money. For some reason we seemed to be instantly recognised as tourists so I have taken on a clever disguise.
